On April 8, 2024, Cuatro Ciénegas, located in the heart of the Coahuila desert, became the epicenter of a historic astronomical event: the total solar eclipse. This phenomenon, which darkened the skies of Mexico for more than four minutes, will not repeat in the country until 2052, making it a unique experience for those who had the chance to witness it.

Eclipso: The Festival that Celebrated the Total Solar Eclipse

The Eclipso festival, organized by Orígen, was an event designed to take advantage of the magic of this astronomical phenomenon. Set against the backdrop of Cuatro Ciénegas’ desert, attendees enjoyed a multisensory experience that included live concerts, art, gastronomy, and healing and nature activities. The region’s stunning natural formations, such as the marble mines, gypsum dunes, and crystal-clear rivers, added a surreal touch to the event.

We couldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate this Total Solar Eclipse, which won’t happen again until 2052. Mexico was the protagonist, and Cuatro Ciénegas was the epicenter, always thinking about strengthening and perpetuating the protection of our valley’s ecosystem through the Pro Cuatro Ciénegas foundation.

Glamping and Nature Experience in Cuatro Ciénegas

Eclipso offered travelers the option to stay in glamping, an exclusive experience that allowed them to connect with nature in a comfortable and luxurious setting. Prices for glamping ranged from 4,000 to 8,000 pesos per night, including access to Cuatro Ciénegas’ natural parks, where attendees enjoyed activities like stargazing, bonfires, kayaking, and breakfasts by the river.

Climax of the Total Solar Eclipse

However, the festival’s climax was undoubtedly the totality of the solar eclipse. In an almost dreamlike setting, the eclipse completely covered the sun, forming a spectacular diamond ring in the sky. As the total darkness enveloped the landscape, with a brief sunset surrounding it, attendees were in awe. The drops of light that peeked through the lunar contour evoked a deep emotional response, with some even shedding tears at witnessing this astonishing natural phenomenon.

The states of Sinaloa (Mazatlán), Durango, and Coahuila were among the privileged ones to witness the eclipse in its entirety.

Gastronomy and Drinks: A Fusion of Northern Mexico

In addition to the eclipse, attendees enjoyed an impressive gastronomic offer. Juan Ramón Cárdenas, from the Don Artemio restaurant in Saltillo, delighted the crowd with his famous grilled cabrito. Other standout dishes included green plantain toasts with tuna from Ensenada.

Prominent figures in the culinary world also participated, such as Pedro Gentiloni, co-founder of Il Mercato Gentiloni in Saltillo; Anuar Yutani, from the Sabinas Asado Festival; and Daniel Peña from Hacienda 1800. Drinks were provided by Casa Madero, Tribos, and Scielo Mx from Parras, as well as San Juan de la Vaquería from Saltillo. A special mention goes to the Nocheluna sotol from Chihuahua, owned by musician Lenny Kravitz.

Live Music and International Artists at Eclipso

The festival featured a lineup of talented musicians, including the legendary saxophonist Scott Page, known for his work with Pink Floyd, Supertramp, and Toto. The energy was further fueled by Los Ramdoms, Sonido Sinvergüenza, and DJs like Pahua, Sinego, and Bora Uzer.
