Hello, Grupo Fox family!
Welcome to another interview for Somos Fox, the digital magazine now in its third edition. Today, we’re honored to have a very special guest: none other than Engineer Luis Enríquez Cadena. A true institution, he’s one of the pioneers of Grupo Fox. He has graciously agreed to this interview so that those who don’t yet know him—though there aren’t many—can learn more about him, his personality, and his perspective.

Engineer Luis Enríquez, how did you come to join Grupo Fox? Could you tell us a bit about your journey?
In 1992, I left Altos Hornos de México, and through a mutual acquaintance of both Engineer Fernando and myself, I joined to conduct some refractory application tests for oxygen. It was supposed to be a three-month project, but here I am, 32 years later.

What can you tell us about those early days and the challenges you faced as you started out?
Our first steps were pioneering—introducing the concept of calculating refractory costs per ton of liquid acid produced.

How would you describe the evolution of Fox Steel and Grupo Fox during your time here?
Through our work with Altos Hornos, we began developing the mining industry, manufacturing ADMs, mining equipment, and accessories. From there, we transitioned from refractories to fabricated steel products. By 2009, we had entered the railroad industry.

What do you believe are the keys to the success of Fox Steel and Grupo Fox today?
Dedication, effort, innovation, and development. We embrace challenges, and that’s why we’ve reached this position.

That’s great to hear. How would you describe the current atmosphere in the plant, the factory, and the offices in Castaños?
We’re in a period of growth—steadily expanding. While political factors with our northern neighbor have slowed things down, we’re optimistic that we’ll see renewed momentum at the start of the year and experience the productive work environment we strive for.

What have been the biggest challenges over the years?
Identifying growth opportunities, maximizing them, and constantly innovating have been our greatest challenges.

How has Fox Steel adapted to technological advancements and innovations in the steel industry?
We’ve made significant progress. We are an integrated company—starting with a steel coil, leveling it, cutting it to size, and now utilizing laser cutting and assembly technology. We can take a steel coil and deliver a fully assembled product. Currently, we are the only company offering this complete integrated process.

Are there any plans for the next five years?
We’re about to launch container manufacturing. There are other new projects currently in development, and we expect them to be fully operational next year.

As someone with vast experience and knowledge of every aspect of the plant, what advice would you give to young employees or newcomers in their first year?
Treat your job like a school—learn, dedicate yourself, and focus on finding something you enjoy. Work should be fulfilling and enjoyable.

Finally, could you share a bit about who Engineer Luis Enríquez is outside of work? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I dedicate my time to my family—my children and grandchildren.

How many grandchildren do you have?
I have two children and three grandchildren, with the latest addition just recently born.

Thank you so much for this interview and for your time, which we truly value. Do you have a message for the Grupo Fox family as we approach Christmas and the New Year?
I’m not much for words, but I wish everyone the best—blessings to your families, and enjoy this time responsibly.

That’s all for now, friends. See you in the next interview in 2025. Thank you very much!
